// By replacing your hard drive with an SSD, you can bring your old computer back to life
Do you have any computers that are just real slow? Ever considered just buying another computer, because yours is just too slow ? You might have even thought about taking it in for repairs, but then, have you looked at the pricing of getting a computer repaired ? Could be a couple hundred dollars, depending on whats wrong.
The most common problem I see though, is that your computer’s hard drive is failing. Fixing this up, could save you from having to purchase a whole new computer, and bring new life to the one you currently have, which is great for you, your wallet, and the environment.
The hard drive is where your files are stored. Issue is that hard drives have little moving pieces inside of them, and over time, those pieces can become worn out, which makes things run very slowly. An SSD is a different way to store files, with no moving pieces, and SSDs are generally much faster than even a perfectly working hard drive.
Most of the time, when I see a computer get very slow, it is because the hard drive is failing, and so replacing the hard drive with a much faster, much newer, ssd, can speed things up greatly.
In order to do this you will need: your computer your ssd a screwdriver a way to mount the ssd in the computer, so a velcro strip, or a screw, in my case, a screw. and your cue cards, just in case you forget anything
First you are going to want to open up the side panel, so we are unscrewing these two screws
now you take off the side panel and you’re in the computer
now you want to find a sata cable, they look a lot like this ( show sata cable ). There will be one connected to your hard drive, or dvd reader, which you can unplug. In my case, the dvd reader was already removed years ago, so those cables are just floating free. If I did not have those cables, I would steal them from the hard drive, which is right here under the cd reader.
So, now I take my SSD, and plug those cables into the SSD.
I then can leave the SSD just about anywhere, as long as it can’t bounce around and short out the motherboard. You might want to velcro it down if you, like I, do not have a good mounting spot for it. In my case, i can screw it into the cd reader area, though that is not at all necessary.
Now, we just close it all back up, so throw back on that side panel
You will have to reinstall windows onto the ssd, and move over all your files, but that is pretty simple, and not within the scope of this demonstration.
Once you have reinstalled windows, your system should be running much faster!
So that’s all you need to know in order to upgrade your hard drive in your computer to an SSD.
