How she defines culture: how a group of people live, their lifestyle.
there is a larger culture ( e.g. american culture ), and that is called the dominant culture
within the larger culture we have smaller groups, whos way of life is slightly different from the dominant group. those are subcultures. you can belong to many many subcultures
outside of culture we have counter culture, and that is a group of people who’s way of life is perceived to be a threat to the larger culture.

Within subcultures, she can use language that everyone in the culture understands. People within subcultures have an easier time talking to eachother.
The Amish are considered a subculture
Counter Cultures are a threat, like Socialists. Or Communists, or LGBTQIA+ people, the KKK, white nationalist groups.
Christianity is a dominant culture
when hippies first emerged, they were perceived as a counter culture. they were breaking all kinds of rules and norms and were a threat to the status quo. nowadays though, they are more of a subculture. they are not perceived as dangerous anymore. Now, a lot of the hippie lifestyle has become part of the dominant culture.

every culture and subculture has a different ruler ( values ) what might be beautiful for one is not going to be beautiful for another, because they have a different ruler. They all think beauty is important, but just have different views on what beauty is.
