2 sections

  1. the cubby itself
  2. the outer structure it attaches to.

The cubby itself:

front panel

channel for led wire to run through, and base of the structure

side view

top view

female hole for backing or another module to slot in

dowel for connecting 2 modules together

secondary backing module

female holes for male walls to slot in

wall for drawer

front view of many drawers connected

submersed cable channel

female hole for another backing module

female hole for dowel to connect w thing

hollow, so that leds can be put inside, and cable can be fed through that cable channel.

pogo pin connector

actual cubby space

cable that connects usbc male connector to LEDs size is exaggerated to make clear what im saying

push latch mechanism https://www.reddit.com/r/mechanical_gifs/comments/jx7lei/push_latch_mechanism/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAqWdhAVNI8

idea is - spring stores energy when i slot the thing in, so when I press on the thing later to open it back up, spring reaches a point where the energy can be released and then it springs forward, opening my drawer.

in this design, i take the port with it, because i dont think i can spring forward something that is actually connected to a usbc port at the time. i dont need the spring to move it a ton, i just need it to move the whole system enough that i can get my fingers into the cubby, so i can pull the cubby fully open, disconnecting it from the usbc port.

pogo pin female connector (supplies power to leds)

that is a nice part of using a push push mechanism it locks down until you press in on it

the outer structure

view of them connected:

view of individual pieces:

top view of panel:

7in x 7in, adjustable via editing a variable in cad program.

top view of adapter

can lead to:

which then allows for:

drawer can be inserted in this hole in the middle

once drawer is inserted, just looks like:

led panel

because panel section extends outside of just that enclosed area. front panel is wider and taller than the drawer’s insides.

this means that tiling many of them together looks like:

led panel

led panel

led panel

hopefully as little gap as possible between the led panels, so it can look close to a uniform wall, that you can just press on to release a cubby.
