I need to do a journal entry answering this question: What characteristic of the senses sparked distrust for Descartes? How does he address that distrust in his Meditations? How was the idea of a “Great Deceiver” helpful in leading Descartes to his famous conclusion Cogito Ergo Sum (“I think, therefore I am”)? Remember to support your claims with textual evidence!

Here are the criteria for journal entries: 6 times this semester we will be engaging weekly topics through Journal entries, however only your 5 strongest entries will count towards your overall grade. Each Journal will begin with a question I pose surrounding the course readings, and relevant theories. Your entry should be between 400 minimum and 500 maximum words in length in response to the principal questions. This is for the purpose of getting you to practice being clear & precise in argumentation, but also concise in your writing A successful entry is one that foremost answers the question at hand, and in doing so explains and summarizes the pertinent arguments from the texts. Your task is to address the topic question critically, in depth, while applying appropriate moral theories/readings. (Ask yourself such questions as “who is/are affected?”, “how are they affected?”, “who/what is responsible?”, “what are the implications?”, “what does the moral theory we have learned here have to say about this?” etc.
